The Hoosier Environmental Council is Indiana’s leading educator and advocate for environmental issues and policies. We are passionate about our role in shaping the state’s environmental future and all who will be affected by it. Simply stated, our goal is to make Indiana a better place to live, breathe, work, and play. Our two greatest tools are education and advocacy. And if passion is a tool, then add that to the list. Putting science to work in the most beneficial ways imaginable, we aim to work in harmony with nature and people, creating lasting partnerships that will benefit both. By bringing issues to the forefront and encouraging an open discussion about Indiana’s environmental well being, we can help shape laws, create jobs, protect the environment, and improve our quality of life.
We believe in building an organization grounded in passion, hard work, integrity, knowledge and collegiality. We believe in dialogue, partnerships, and collaboration. We are willing to take unpopular stances, but are committed to always advocating from a foundation of good science and economics. We aspire to build a statewide movement that embraces Hoosiers of all walks of life – Republicans, Democrats and Independents, of all races and backgrounds – united to build a more positive future for our children. Hoosiers are smart, hard-working, resourceful people. Exactly the kind of people we’re proud to represent and to help us get the job done
We have made significant progress in protecting forests, groundwater, and lakes throughout the state. Yet, as unbelievable as it sounds, Forbes magazine ranks Indiana the 49th greenest state. So there is a lot of work to do. A lot of teaching. A lot of talking. And a lot of listening.
